I am come from a three generation grappling family. My Grandfather, Moises Lopez, trained in Freestyle Wrestling and had the honor of representing Mexico in 4 different Olympics and several World Championships. My father followed in his father’s footsteps and wrestled as well.

I was born in the United States and growing up, my father tried to find a Wrestling Club for me. The closest thing to wrestling that he could find was Judo. I, at the age of 7, along with my 2 younger brothers started training with Hui-O- Judo under Sensei Kenneth Tamai and his children. I grew very fond of it and started competing, traveling
to compete, and made so many friends.

Once a student, I am now a Sensei here at the Dojo where it all began for me, under Sensei Kevin Tamai. My son, Angel Lopez, is following my footsteps and is finding his love for Judo. Judo continues to teach me so much and I still consider it my passion. Looking forward to still compete and pass on the passion I have learned to others.
